Michael Köhlmeier, born in Hard on Lake Constance, resides with his wife, author Monika Helfer, in Hohenems/Vorarlberg and Vienna. For decades, he has been one of Austria’s most significant writers, renowned for his radio plays, narrations of classical mythology on Ö1, and numerous novels including “Die Abenteuer des Joel Spazierer” (2013), “Matou” (2021), “Frankie” (2023), and most recently “Das Philosophenschiff” (2024), as well as poetry collections and novellas. Köhlmeier has received numerous awards, including the 2017 Literature Prize from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Marie Luise Kaschnitz Prize for his complete works, and the 2019 Ferdinand Berger Prize. He frequently addresses political issues, delivering a notable speech in 2018 on the Day of Remembrance for Victims of National Socialism, dedicated to combating violence and racism.
