
Solmaz Khorsand
Solmaz Khorsand (*1985 in Vienna) is an Austrian journalist and author with Iranian roots. She studied political science at the University of Vienna and then completed a journalistic traineeship at the ‘Berliner Zeitung’. She began her journalistic career as an editor at the Austrian daily newspaper ‘Der Standard’, where she was primarily responsible for international reporting. She later worked as an editor in the foreign department of the ‘Wiener Zeitung’ and was a columnist for the weekly newspaper ‘Falter’.
Khorsand is known for her trenchant analyses of social, political and international issues. In her articles, she often deals with questions of identity, migration and integration as well as the political situation in Iran and Europe. In 2020, she published her first book ‘Pathos’, in which she analyses the state of Austrian society.
Solmaz Khorsand has received several awards for her work, including the Prelate Leopold Ungar Recognition Award. She is a regular presenter and panellist at panel discussions and in the media. Khorsand is regarded as one of the most prominent voices in recent Austrian journalism.
